A reorientation of Biology Education in Dutch Schools, approached from a pedagogical and developmental psychological perspective
RESULTS OF A STUDY
Cornelis Godefridus Marie van Mierlo
De Golden Man by Toos Hagenaars
This study is carried out by a pedagogue. The intention is to contribute to the science of pedagogy, in particular, the science of teaching. The study proposes a design for a new school program. The existence of a fundamental question among boys and girls - that is not answered in today’s school curriculum – is the basic assumption.
This dissertation seeks to tackle this problem by developing a revised curriculum on the subject biology in a way that the existential question will be answered during the course of the secondary school years.
This site is meant to be visited by people who:
Are interested in a new approach to the human-animal world reality
Ask themselves how it can be that they are humans and seek to explore the physical and mental being of humankind
Want to earn a living with educating boys and girls and are teaching the biology in their schools
This website version of the manuscript will be improved and extended continuously. Under the heading Disclaimer, you can find out more about the purpose of the study. On this website you can read a summary of each chapter in English, but the full text is only available in Dutch. Under Download you can get the complete text of the book, with the exception of the time-bars. If you would like to own the time-bars (printed with a total length of 6 meters), you need to Order the book.
To complete the study, a design for a biology curriculum, the implementation will be the crucial and final step. I will keep track of several implementations and my own program on my website: www.cornelisvanmierlo.nl.
This study will benefit a lot from the comments of those who have read and thought over the text. Therefore, I invite you to post your comments and ideas in the Forum pages of this site.
It is important to me that the reader will post his views, opposing or similar to mine, without restraint.
